Book Seven · Coming · The last case

Billy Thinx and the First Projection

The First Projection cover

The last case · What remains when the companion is gone?

Eight months after Sydney. An empty water bowl. A Time Master hail on a frequency no one uses. The last case is already moving.

Overview

The Restless Verdict has not changed — a hundred and forty feet of hull, eleven rooms — and every morning the ship feels one size too large. Then a coordinate that should not exist. The Undreamers believe the kindest thing left is to find the dreamer and end him.

He was thirty-two in the cave. The later books take him through the war and the years Sydney lived beside him. He does not unmake the dream. He stays in it, awake.
