Billy Thinx and Sydney, a red heeler.

The Hero

Meet Billy Thinx and Sydney

Not a chosen one. A man who will not look away.

Billy Thinx is not a chosen one in the cheap sense. He is a man who can still hear the old frequency — Lyran blood, human doubt, and a compass that points toward the work no one else will do. He stands on balconies and battlefields with the same question: will I remember who I am when it costs me?

Why it’s different

Most science fiction asks: can we survive?

Billy Thinx asks: what makes us human?

His gift is not invincibility. It is the refusal to look away.

Portraits

Billy and Sydney

Sydney — red heeler, fox face, the collar that still knows the stars

The companion

He does not walk the worlds alone.

At his side is Sydney — red heeler, telepathic, friend, witness, hope. Her voice arrives not in the ear but in the mind. No rank. No house. No treaty. Only a bond that does not require a frequency to stay. In a saga of governors, shadows, and ancient blood, their friendship is the proof that love is also a technology.

Sydney

Sydney

Red heeler. Telepathic. Friend. Witness. Hope.

Sydney is an Australian cattle dog mixed with fox: tan-red coat, white chest, pointed ears, a fox's face, and a mind that does not stay on the porch. Her voice arrives not in the ear but in the mind. She keeps the maps Billy loses and carries the courage to walk into places where memory is hunted. Their bond is the emotional center of the saga. Beneath the wars and the worlds, this is a story about memory, loyalty, and love.

Her role deepens with every book. In Book Three, after Codex exposure, the record finally names what the saga already knew: her presence stabilizes what would otherwise overload. She is not auxiliary; she is a co-carrier of resonance. In Book Four she stands the ridge beside Billy and will not look away from the neighbor sky. In Book Five the recovered scan is declassified, showing psionic pathways fully lit and a bidirectional telepathic link that holds under fire. In Book Six the Forge names her Eden's Recall: she remembers so others may become. And in Book Seven the bowl is empty, the sensor still chirps, and the last case begins in a ship that feels one size too large without her.

The others

Companions, hunters, keepers

Zara El Amin

Zara El Amin

Systems architect. Pattern hunter.

Half-human, half-Pleiadian. Acid-green hair. She sees relationships entire organizations miss for decades.

Zara arrived at Thinx Tower with two duffel bags, a laptop she refuses to replace, and a reputation that makes intelligence agencies nervous. She does not merely find information. She hears harmony in financial transfers, satellite passes, and dead accounts. In Book Two she is the one who first names the Fourth Shadow — and the one willing to tell Billy when he is wrong.

Marcus

Marcus

Operations Anchor. The wall when the world needs one.

Marcus is chaos wrapped in discipline: plasma, graphene, and a refusal to leave anyone behind. A close-quarters specialist in kinetic defense, he would rather blow something up and is honest enough to say so. The recovered files make his title official, defining the Operations Anchor as a grounding agent for when abstraction threatens cohesion. He walks the ice. He walks Mars. He keeps the company alive long enough for the archive to be copied instead of burned.

In Book Six the Forge finds him again, logged as subject Marcus-9, status: awakening. Not restored. Not resurrected. Remembered. Some days the lamplight passes through him at the edges. He is never whole, but he is present, and that is enough.

LurielLuriel

Luriel

Pleiadian guide. She remembers longer than the wars.

Luriel is the Pleiadian who walks Billy off the ridge and into the larger map. Warm, patient, and golden-haired, she carries a memory older than the edit and shares it gently, one truth at a time. In Book Four she stands with Billy and Sydney as a dark spear cuts across the neighbor galaxy, and she is the one who names the warning in the neighbor sky. She does not shout. She points. The houses have other names for her, but the saga keeps this one.

Harlan ValesHarlan Vales

Harlan Vales

Bounty hunter. Rain, steel, and a ledger of debts.

Harlan Vales takes contracts, but the one that matters most is the one he keeps with himself. A licensed albino hunter, pale as the rain he works in, he tracks what the houses will not admit exists. He talks little, misses nothing, and carries a ledger of debts he means to settle, one name at a time.

He never works alone. Karo, a black heeler-wolf, stays at his side because that is the vow, and a vow is the one debt Harlan never questions. In Book 4.5, at the Third Seal, the lone hunter finally accepts the bind. He knows the war does not belong to one man, and even a hunter who answers to no one eventually has to choose a side.

Oth'qir Naal — The Lost God of Rigel

Oth'qir Naal — The Lost God of Rigel

The forgotten law of a living star.

Blue skin. Lattice-veins of light. A clock sealed in gold where a heart would be.

Rigel still burns. He does not — not as the houses remember a god. The Lost God of Rigel is the face they buried under nicer names. He is a Time Master, but not with the others. Blue skin holding a night sky. Gold at the brow that is not a crown — a seal against forgetting which hour is real. The engine on his chest is older than the Architects and older than the Thread. The Time Masters tend clocks. He is what a clock is for. The saga does not yet say whether he fell, was exiled, or walked out of his own constellation on purpose. It only says the look in those eyes has already seen the ending you are walking toward.

Isaac Thinx

Isaac Thinx

The inheritance. The warning.

He survived Auschwitz. He left a journal, a map, and a sentence that would not stay on the page.

Isaac Thinx survived a machinery of death built not only from hatred, but from paperwork, obedience, silence, and ordinary people agreeing not to look too closely. He never spoke of evil as a monster under the bed. He spoke of it as a pattern people allowed. His ratline map, folded inside the worn leather journal, is the first true document of Book Two. Hatred does not need victory. Only shelter.

Douglas HartwellDouglas Hartwell

Douglas Hartwell

The vanishing man. A garage. A question.

Forty. Hotel networks. Ordinary on purpose. Then the machine in the garage stopped being a hobby.

By day, Douglas Hartwell keeps hotel networks running and pays his bills. By night, in a suburban garage, he builds a machine from copper wire, salvaged cooling parts, and a question he can't let go: what if reality, as he knows it, is only one station on a dial?

The experiment doesn't stay in the garage. It leads him to Travelers, to a planet that heals, to Elowyn, and to the Thren. And at the far end of all that sky waits a ranch in Colorado, a copper ring, and a life he is certain he got right.

Douglas isn't a side chapter in the Billy Thinx story. He is the hero of Between Lives.

Elowyn

Elowyn

Celestial. Brunette. The one already living in the sky he was asking about.

She does not shout; she measures. Beneath her gentleness lie quiet layers, and she has long lived in the very place Douglas has spent his life searching for.

Elowyn is celestial, yet unmistakably brunette, not the silver or gold-white one might expect of a being from beyond. Between her world and his, distance seems as fixed as architecture, until the day it isn't. She meets Douglas in the city of light and walks beside him across the ringed world, and when the hard truth of their different lifespans surfaces, she names it calmly, without ever raising her voice. The corridor ahead already knows her name. Whatever waits there, Douglas will not face it alone.
